There’s a simple method for explaining soccer practice; no rules to follow. You are free to test new drills, come up with innovative ideas to create drills and so on. Practice makes a man perfect is something that each of us is aware of. This for sure is applicable to the soccer practice sessions. The kids are hopeful of attempting something new in the field every single day. However, remember that the kids must be made to practice old techniques in soccer training regularly that have been taught by you.

So the challenge before you is to ensure that monotony does not set in despite the kids practicing a few identical drills everyday. To aid you in carrying out practice sessions in a way that’s motivating, regular, and closely controlled; following are some tips.

1. This has been emphasized enough. Kids will learn from you and hence you should be a role model. Be present on the filed before the kids; demonstrate your skill with the ball, let all the kids participate, and arrange sessions ahead of time. This has the effect of winning over the player’s confidence and respect.

2. Educate the kids to carry their personal ball to the field daily. It is mandatory that every kid has a soccer ball. Just in case they forget to bring it, keep some extra balls with you.

3. There are certain soccer moves that need to be practiced on a daily basis. In soccer practice, kicking, passing, dribbling, and throw-ins are indispensible. It’s imperative for the kids to practice these daily without fail. Make sure each one of the kids participate in this even if some of them shy away in the beginning.

4. Introduce more games than soccer drills in practice sessions. The reason is that games require much more stamina and dexterity in contrast to drills. Also, with games, you can experiment and innovate while keeping the focus on soccer.

5. Discipline is the key to success for any team. With kids, it is almost certain that you will have issues. Ensure that you nip all issues in the bud to whether big or small. But keep in mind the method you adopt to do so since kids are sensitive and get hurt easily.

6. When the practice session is on, you will notice that some players just stand there while others chase the ball. Ensure that this does not happen. All the young players should involve themselves in the game. Tell each player his position on the field and then make them accountable for it.

7. Do not make them scrimmage a lot. Ideally, it should not be more than 15 to 20 minutes at the end of each session. And there is no need for a goalie in scrimmaging. This will help the team build its defensive skills.

8. Keep innovating and experimenting with games and drills. That is the best way to keep the interest of the kids alive in the training sessions.

Let me tell you that in kids soccer drills, there are certain blunders that coaches make which reduce their teams to rubble and bring it down. And it’s absolutely right. Many of you must be thinking that how can there be something so big that can destroy a team. Well, let it be known that there are many.

With respect to soccer drills for kids, you’ve got to act very cautiously and tactfully. You must recognize kids psychology. Talk to the kids in a manner that they find most suitable. But unfortunately, many coaches are unprepared to adjust to it. They conveniently ignore fact that there is a disparity between training grown-up players and kids.

So there you have it; top faults of coaches that bring the teams to a point, from where it’s near impossible to get back on to the winning track.

1. A lot of them consider their jobs as casual work. They are not punctual, fail to organize the drills, and don’t think it’s important to plan the sessions. All these are not only bad traits but put off the kids too. Just like the kids, you too should get serious about soccer. Youth soccer drills should be pre-planned. Arrange for various equipments needed to perform the drills before-hand.

Be on time. Always reach the field before the kids. In reality, be present there to welcome the kids. What you get here is the additional time to run through the drills or plan out things.

2. Before the sessions, when the coaches impart instructions for kids soccer drills, they get so lost in it so as to loose track of the time. Can you believe how boring that can be? You must appreciate that kids are more eager to play than hearing long speeches. Keep your instructions brief and to the point. These sessions should be used to boost the confidence of the kids as well as motivate them.

It is crucial that you do not interrupt the kids when they are playing. If you have observed anything that needs to be corrected, note it and discuss it after the drill. Also, stay out of the field when the kids are practicing.

3. Some coaches get ruthless and unkind while dealing with the kids. In soccer drills for youth, this can prove to be catastrophic. It is never a good idea to show your emotions on the field. It is Ok if kids make mistakes. Always remember that they are young. There is no need to get sensitive about it and be rude to the players.

If you do, understand that you not only make the kids lose interest in the sport but also invite disciplinary action. Soccer is about mind games. When the kids understand this, they feel inspired.

Although your opinion may be different from mine on this but still pay attention. In kids soccer drills, the methods used to train small kids and older players are significantly different. This is because the former are in the first stage of the learning curve while the latter have a good idea as to what is it that they prefer to do and what not.

But, there are certain methods that can be used in soccer drills for kids which will help them become exceptional soccer players. Always keep in mind the fact that kids must enjoy playing soccer if their interest is to be retained in the game. The moment this interest is lost, it becomes a burden for them. The pressure to quit the game begins to play on them. So have patience and don’t make them feel obligated to play.

A lot of kids like playing the game because it’s fun whereas many other play for the sake of their parents. In either case, kids don’t consider any amount of rewards or trophies for playing the game. Many soccer coaches tend to completely ignore this aspect in kids soccer drills. They get on to the kids nerves to attain the performance targets like their physical capacity and skills. This results in kids not only feeling discouraged but also suffer from low-esteem.

Here, it is vital that young boys in youth soccer drills are made aware of the new regulations. This is due to the fact that they may not know them and be slow at learning about them. Also, before introducing any changes in the team’s structure, take their suggestions, views, and opinions before hand. This allows the kids to understand the system and accept the changes willfully.

In the role of a coach, it makes sense that you help the kids develop some good traits as well. For this, you should observe the kids performance individually. You must make it a point to ensure that kids get a lot of time for themselves on the ground and that you admire their skills from time to time. Also, it is equally important to penalize the boys who do not follow the stated rules and regulations.
This makes kids accountable for their actions.

Nevertheless, be alert with this exercise. Do not behave violently with the kid. He should not be left alone to himself. For example, a healthy penalty would be to keep the kid from being a part of the training sessions.
